Dr. Samson Gwer
Sam is the co-founder and team leader of Afya Research Africa. He is a consultant paediatrician and paediatric neurologist and has been involved in practice, programmes and research in child health and neurology for the past 20 years. He has been pivotal in defining ARA’s mission, supporting the development of her primary health care network, Ubuntu-Afya Kiosks, and in the design and implementation of STONE-HMIS®, ARA’s in-house digital health information system in use across her kiosk network and in various private and public health facilities. Sam is an evidence freak and has guided the evolution of ARA’s research and evidence programme, and engineered collaborations with various international institutions. He has programme and research interests in facilitating sustainable access to quality healthcare by under-served populations, and in epilepsy, sickle cell disease and childhood non-traumatic encephalopathies. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatricians and Child Health and had a Doctorate in Child Neurology from the University of Amsterdam.
Dr. Moses Ndiritu
Moses leads the development and deployment of ARA’s digital health management information system, STONE-HMIS®, across her network of Ubuntu-Afya Kiosks. He is also involved in the provision of clinical services at our medical centres, offering a deep understanding of how electronic applications and processes interface with clinical practice. Moses has over 15 years of clinical experience and holds a Master’s of Philosophy Degree in Clinical Epidemiology from the University of Cambridge. He has experience in paediatrics and child health research and has been involved in clinical and epidemiological studies evaluating the effectiveness of vaccines against severe bacterial infections in children. His unique set of skills and experiences set him apart as a practical clinician, epidemiologist, and health informatician.
Elizabeth Ombech
Elizabeth leads operations, monitoring, and evaluation for the Ubuntu Afya Medical Centre network and health research projects in our Research and Evidence Programme. She has a Master’s of Science Degree in Public Health and a Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Microbiology, both from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. She is also an accredited trainer for the JBI Comprehensive Systematic Review Training Program. She has over eight years experience in reproductive, maternal, newborn, adolescent, and child health research. Elizabeth has extensive experience in research design, qualitative and quantitative research methods, data management and analysis, and programme monitoring and evaluation from national and international organizations working in Kenya.
Enock Oloo
Enock has a degree in Computer Science from the University of Nairobi. He is involved in programming and maintaining the in-house digital health information system (STONE-HMIS®). He is responsible for overseeing all aspects of information technology (IT) and computer systems across our centres. He is involved in managing and strategically planning our centres’ IT infrastructure, including electronic health records (EHR), cybersecurity, hardware, software, network systems, and technology-related policies. He has great interests in health informatics and is part of the team involved in programming the STONE-HMIS®.
Dorcas Pacho
Dorcas leads procurement for Afya Research Africa and the Ubuntu-Afya Kiosk network. She heads pharmaceutical procurement and manages drug stock at all medical centre sites. Dorcas has a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Supplies and Logistics from KCA University in Nairobi and a Diploma in Library Science from the University of Nairobi. She has more than 8 years experience in administration positions at various organizations in Kenya.
Paul Onam
Paul is ARA’s Finance Officer. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management from KCA University and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K). Paul responsibilities includes managing the organization’s finances, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and supporting ARA’s overall mission. He has extensive experience in managing accounts, budgeting, financial reporting, human resources, and statutory compliance for enterprises and non-profits.
Rogers Omondi
Rogers is a programme coordinator at Afya Research Africa, and leads engagement with health workers and target communities across ARA’s Ubuntu-Afya Kiosk network. He has extensive experience in deploying community programs and has more than eight years experience working with rural health, HIV and education programmes. He has diploma in community development.
Clifford Mwita
Clifford leads ARA’s collaborative research initiative with the JBI and a number of projects in evidence synthesis and utilization. Clifford is a qualified medical doctor with experience in evidence-based healthcare and promoting the translation of research into clinical practice. He has a Master’s Degree in General Surgery from Moi University. Clifford has acquired skills in conducting systematic reviews and clinical audits and holds an evidence-based clinical fellowship from JBI, University of Adelaide.
